Five Things I Do Every Sunday to Prepare for the Week Ahead

During Covid things got a little chaotic in our household, it was a season of change and we were really needing a better system! So Pat and I started having these Sunday planning meetings to get our life in order for the upcoming week. We have been doing them ever since! It doesn’t have to take a lot of time, but it is something that makes a HUGE difference in how we function as a family unit! That way no one is forgetting to pick up a kid from school (yes we have done that!) and everyone is on the same page! I have even started teaching this to Maddie to help her stay organized with her school work. Her teacher provides a weekly planner sheet, and it helps her see when a test is, when homework is due so that she can plan ahead and feel more in control!

Okay, so here’s what we do!

Plan out our meals for the week

This isn’t something we have always done - but over the last several years it makes a huge difference in our grocery bill as well as just keeping us from ordering out! Groceries are so expensive these days, so having a plan and a list helps you stay on budget!

Brain dump my to-do list

Every Sunday I wrote down EVERYTHING that has to be done that week- and then I put it into my schedule- this has helped me have less anxiety and overwhelm. An important piece of this is it helps me create boundaries around my time. It helps me to see what really needs to be done this week, and what can be done at a different time.

After I make my list - I ask myself :

What can I ask for help with?

What can I let go of?

What do I have to look forward to?

Schedule my workouts

I put them on my calendar just like I do appointments for the kids. It’s THAT important. No one can make the time for me, but ME. So I make sure to do that- it’s a necessity for my SANITY 😜 For me this is just part of my life now, like brushing my teeth. It’s THAT important! Once you decide to make it that important, you will be surprised how you find a way to get it done!

Coordinate with Pat

Especially with 3 kids + therapy + all the after school activities - it’s helped our marriage (and our communication) being on the same page and clarifying WHO is doing what on which day for the week ahead.

REST

Sit on the couch (or in bed), and just do nothing 🙃 Believe it or not, you don’t have to be doing all the things ALL THE TIME. You are allowed to rest, to take a break, to do something for you to recharge for the week ahead!
