Looking forward to your summer travels but don’t want to lose all the progress you’ve made in your health journey this year? Here are my favorite travel tips to help keep your health top of mind, wherever you are! ✈️
Add workout outfits and gear to your packing list
If you plan on working out and have your favorite fits and equipment on you, you’re more likely to plan it into your day! I love to bring resistance bands with me - these are the ones I use- you can get a great workout with just bands!
When scheduling your stay, consider walkability
Opt for accommodations in central areas where you can walk to nearby attractions, restaurants, and shops. This will naturally increase your daily step count (and save on taxis, ride shares, and public transportation)
Bring a refillable water bottle
Summer travel can be dehydrating, especially if you're active. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay energized and avoid heat-related issues! Drinking water before meals can also help with overeating and aid in regularity.
Plan to workout in the morning
Exercise in the morning before your day gets busy. This way, you ensure you get your workout in and can enjoy the rest of the day’s activities without worrying about fitting in exercise. We usually travel with my parents so they can watch the kids if Pat and I head to the gym- but we have also just worked out in the hotel room or outside of our airbnb. 30 minutes is really all you need to get in some endorphins and movement!
Download a fitness app to your phone or tablet for easy workout access
I can take my workout library wherever I go as long as I have WIFI! If WIFI isn’t an option, it also allows you to download workouts beforehand so you can plan a workout schedule ahead of time. This is crucial for staying active. I don’t have to think of what to do next- I just open the app and press play! It makes it so simple
Minimize day drinking
I know this doesn’t sound that fun, but it makes a huge difference. Consider rationing how much you are drinking and instead of drinking all day give yourself a limit. While I know it doesn’t sound as fun, there are so many extra calories consumed in alcohol and then when you are buzzed you are likely going to be hangry and end up over eating. So I have just found that cutting back on alcohol consumed on vacation really helps me feel better overall!
